It’s an anti-utopia game where you are a white half-slug, half-cat creature which has to survive in the wracked world and find its family. On your way, you’ll have to fight enemies, search for food and avoid rains which dominate this world. You can download Rain World for PlayStation 4, Windows and Switch.
This game is like one of those psychedelic Japanese cartoons. It even begins with static cartoons which tell the sad story of the game’s main hero. You have here unseen unrealistic animals and creatures which can fly, jump and fight with unknown laws of physics. The beginning cartoon is colorful, but the entire game is dark and gloomy, only the Slugcat is white. Everything looks like a sewer or some kind of a broken underground. The enemies are great here and have some kind of color so you’ll definitely notice them.
It’s a platformer game meaning that you can move up, down, left and right - any direction on a frozen screen. There are different modes like Sandbox with custom encounters and Arena - multiplayer with up to 4 players at a time. You need to survive until next rain comes to the world, it’s like a season. When it comes you have to hide and hibernate in special place otherwise you’ll die. It’s a timing game - you can see the time left until next rain at the bottom of the screen when the map shows. You have to go through the map and get to specific places which open to you one by one.
There are no levels in Rain World - only phases between rains. You can’t kill your enemies, you can only avoid them and shoot them with your food. It’s tough - those crocodile-like things are sneaky and fast, you’ll die pretty often here. Game saving is available only when Slugcat hibernates which makes it even more difficult.
From this Rain World review, you should learn that the entire game you have a yellow warm which is your tutorial guide. It shows you what controls to use for each movement, what to do and where to go. It’s very helpful, especially if you’re new to the game. Here you can go, climb, crawl, fight and eat. It’s strange that you can’t even eat here automatically and you have to spend more time and energy on it. You also fall from things and go back and forth through tunnels.
Replay Value: 3
You want to get back to this game only to see if you can find Slugct’s family and make him happy again. The same scenery and gameplay though make you think if you want to play it more. This game is good for anime fans and those who like platformer genre. But even they might find this game not exciting enough.
The game isn’t easy, but at the same time, it becomes rather boring at some point. At first, you’re mesmerized by the graphics, but then it all seems the same. It can be tiring for the eyes so make sure to up the brightness on this. It’s fun to explore this world but not too fun when you have to eat all the time and run away from your enemies. And the timing makes it even harder to play.
By downloading Rain World you get cool gothic looking game with a cute hero but not cute and pretty difficult things to do. Let’s see if you can survive in this grim fantasy world.
Pros : Beautiful flowey graphics and animation;
Cute story and the main character which you root for.
Cons : The Slugcat can’t slide on walls like a slug, strange;
Too big sceneries, too small Slugcat sometimes it’s difficult to see what you’re doing.
Replay Value 3.0
